What is creativity to me?
Defining “creativity” has always been a debatable issue, especially because the meaning differ from one individual to another. The universally accepted definition (based on dictionaries) is “the use of the imagination or original ideas”, however this is not an in-depth explanation.
My perception of what “creativity” is, is basically the process of “creating” something, anything. If people have never thought of creating that “something”, then it becomes successful, provide that people’s reactions are positive. It is true that it involves imagination or original ideas. Some may say it is the creation of something new. I think nothing can be 100% new because everything is a development of something. For example, the iPad is an evolution of the combination between a touch screen mobile phone and a laptop’s screen monitor.
Creativity is not only important in the Multimedia Industry, but is vital in one’s life, in general. People always associate the word “creativity” with paintings, drawings, colouring and other art related subjects. Even though this is accepted to be true, it also helps in problem solving, where thinking creatively is needed when no existing solution works. In the business world, creativity is required when finding ways to expand, or increase sales.
In this modern, competitive world, people are now looking for new and fresh ideas. No one likes to be presented with the same thing over and over again. Therefore, by possessing the ability to think creatively AND to put it into action, one’s success is within reach.
